About the event
When a popÂuÂlar high school teacher assigns a conÂtroÂverÂsial project askÂing his stuÂdents to debate the pros and cons of Hitler’s Final SoluÂtion, with half the class defendÂing the Nazi point of view, the town erupts in conÂfuÂsion and shock. Two seniors canÂnot accept their teacher’s conÂtention that the debate is a legitÂiÂmate eduÂcaÂtionÂal expeÂriÂence.
ColÂlege accepÂtances, acaÂdÂeÂmÂic awards, and eduÂcaÂtionÂal, famÂiÂly, and social presÂsures make the seniors hesÂiÂtate to pubÂlicly protest this assignÂment, espeÂcialÂly when they find out that the prinÂciÂpal supÂports the teacher. Once the teens have made their stand, howÂevÂer, preÂviÂousÂly unseen fisÂsures in the comÂmuÂniÂty begin to widen and antiÂsemitism gradÂuÂalÂly emerges.
FamÂiÂly ties, close friendÂships, social accepÂtance, fear of perÂsonÂal fall-out, and a deep respect for learnÂing periÂodÂiÂcalÂly shake their resolve, but they perÂsist in protestÂing this appalling assignÂment. SupÂportÂive of one anothÂer, the teens dig deeply into their souls and find the courage to proÂceed. FamÂiÂly secrets emerge under the presÂsure they face, makÂing their fight feel even more sigÂnifÂiÂcant and personal. Based on an actuÂal event, this gripÂping stoÂry will have a lastÂing impact, reachÂing and, perÂhaps, changÂing the readÂer.
